Things Madalynn Says

Madalynn can come up with some crazy things to say sometimes. A lot of them are pretty deep thoughts, some are just so random and off the wall. Over the past few weeks she has come up with these small bits of wisdom...

  • She decided she thought that there should be a blue planet for boys and a pink planet for girls. If you couldn't make it living on the girl's planet, you would have to shave your head and move to the blue boy planet. This would prevent spread of cooties.
  • At our last Wednesday night family dinner, my 17 year old niece and her boyfriend were at her car saying goodbye. Of course, Madalynn was watching and said, "Oh my goodness, she's gonna kiss him. Oh gross, she KISSED him!!  Mama, she's gonna die, she's gonna die!!!" It was hilarious. As you can tell, she still thinks boys have cooties and are gross.
  • She recently had a rough day. She was emotional and came running in from playing outside with  the other kids and flung herself onto the living room floor. She proceeded to whine and cry about how bad she felt and how bad the day was, then she asked, " Mama, please make me some brownies, I need chocolate!! If you can't do brownies, cookies will work." I predict I will need an emergency chocolate stash when the teenage years get here.
  • And I've saved the best for last, we were at Mom's for lunch one Saturday when Bryan came by to eat with us. He was on duty and in uniform of course. After he left, she was staring off into space like she was deep in thought. She said, "Daddy's so handsome." It was precious and I agree wholeheartedly, sweet girl. Your are so smart!!

Being Southern

Many times, usually while I am eating some divine Southern food, I will say, "Thank God I am Southern". While reading through blogs today I ran across a really Southern giveaway. Since I would love to win, I am linking up a blog post. These shirts are really cute and I would love to have one of my own.
ASAP= As Southern As Possible. Is there anything better to be really??  The seersucker dresses are cute as well, but I believe my 35 year old and post 2 baby body won't wear one very well.
Wish me luck in winning the giveaway, and if I do I'll be happy to post a pic of me wearing my Lauren James tshirt.

Sleepover

We had a sleepover last weekend. Lily came up to spend the night for the first time. She was so excited and kept saying, "This is my last sleepover ever!" She meant the first. She was no trouble at all and after I read a few bedtime stories to her she fell right asleep and slept all night.

Here's a morning after the sleepover shot...

And one of Blake because he insisted...

Weekend Recap

Saturday we went to Mad's school to run the Fun Run/5K. Maddie ran the whole mile and had a time of 9:13. Mom and I walked it at a semi-brisk pace. I am embracing the fact I am not a runner so we did what we could. Blake volunteered at the finish line by clocking everyone who finished. It was a good start to Saturday. After that we bought some mulch to spruce up the flower bed areas around the house. It was a lot more labor intensive than I was prepared for but I got it done. Now I need to plant some actual flowers in the beds. I enjoy working in the yard but it's a lot more fun when Bryan is here to help. He does all the grunt work, I enjoy the supervisor role.

Future Chefs Competition

Last week was Maddie's cooking competition. Here are a few photo highlights from the evening...

She had to prepare her dish, make 25 sample sizes, and then be judged. She received a medal for competing, a goodie bag with a t shirt and cookbook, and she got to keep her chef's coat and hat. It was a fun event for her to participate in and she had a great time.

Playing Catch Up

There hasn't been a lot going on that is worthy of writing an entire post on. It's been normal everyday life. But here's a run down just for memory sake:

  • We had Blake's IGP meeting and planned his classes out for freshman year.
  • Maddie won first place in her team competition last Saturday at Math Madness. She was quite worried that she wouldn't even make the team so for her to win was pretty cool.
  • We went for a hike to the river over the weekend. The boys had good luck with the big fish.
  • Maddie has her cooking competition this week. I've got to scramble to find a centerpiece for her table.
  • The kids and I are running the one mile fun run Saturday at Mad's school. Last year I was an idiot and ran the 5K with absolutely no preparation whatsoever and I felt like I would die. I'm going to be a bit more conservative this year. I am learning my limits and I am not a runner, even though I would love to be. I know I can do the mile. :)
